(c) Copyright 1992 by VanDon Software Publishing, Co.
ON THE AIR: From 12/17/79, to 9/82. CBS entire run.
MEDIA: Color Video Tape. 30 minutes per episode. 56
episodes to entire series run.
ORIGINAL TIME-SLOT BROADCASTED: Dec. 1979-Mar. 1980 Mon.
9:30-Sept. 1982 Mon. 9:93-10:00.
PRODUCER: Jerry Davis.
PRODUCTION CO. & SYNDICATED BY: Universal TV (MCA-TV).
CAST: Dr. Charley Michaels (played by Wayne Rogers), Ann
Anderson (Lynn Redgrave), Dr. Norman Solomon (Ray
Buktenica), Dr. Amos Weatherby (David Wayne), Mrs. Phipps
(Deedy Peters), Conrad Peckler (Mark L. Taylor), Head Nurse
Bradley (Aneta Corsaut), Jane Jeffreys (Sharon Gless).
TRIVIA: After Wayne Rogers left the incredible success of
M*A*S*H this was his next series. Sharon Gless went on to
Cagney and Lacy fame, and Lynn Redgrave went on to Chicken
Soup. Also several episodes were directed by Bruce Bilson,
he worked on Hogan's Heroes.
STORY: This short-lived series featured the comic
misadventures of the staff of Kensington General Hospital.
The staff consists of Dr. Michaels, a competent surgeon who
is always chasing after women, especially the assistant
administrator Ann Anderson. The head surgeon is an
eccentric old doctor named Amos Weatherby, who is thought by
many to be senile. Then there is Dr. Norman Solomon, a
young doctor who has an overprotective mother. Of course,
there is the bubbleheaded Mrs. Phipps, the hospital
volunteer, and Conrad Peckler, the prudish chief
administrator. During the last season, Ann Anderson was
replaced by Jane Jeffreys who turned out to be one of Dr.
Michael's old girlfriends. The most unfortunate thing about
this entire series is that is was not cancelled because of
low ratings but for contract problems. First, Lynn Redgrave
tried to force the producers into giving her more money, but
instead of getting more money she was replaced by Sharon
Gless. Then, during the middle of the last season, Wayne
Rogers held out for more money. This time the producers had
a different problem: After all, they couldn't replace the
star of the series, so instead they shut down the show and
ended production. Less than six months later the existing
episodes were pushed into syndication.
